They present two magnificent red-lacquered sticks. From one hangs a long cord with a tassel, from the other a short cord.
As soon as you grasp the short cord and pull it long, the long cord shortens.
This is repeated several times. After a short time, your audience will believe they've figured out the secret: the strings must be connected.
But you prove the opposite...
This basic effect can be varied as desired, shown to appropriate music or accompanied by a funny speech.
