This effect was created by Belgian magician Jos Denys . A diabolical effect for a stunning prediction. Checking the cards or the box doesn't reveal the slightest hint of a solution!
Effect: You present a small wooden box secured by a brass chain. You tell the audience that inside the box is an envelope and a deck of cards. From this deck, a spectator may pick up any number of cards they wish. You assure them that inside the envelope is a prediction that exactly matches the card the spectator picked up at random.
Now ask the spectator—in his mind only—to do the following: Cut an imaginary deck of cards, count the cut cards, and keep this information to himself. He is completely free and can change his mind as often as he likes before announcing it aloud to the entire audience. Then he should perform exactly the same action with the deck of cards from the box.
The chain is removed from the box and placed in your outstretched hand. The spectator should now take the envelope and deck of cards from the box and place them on the table. Your prediction card is in the envelope. The spectator now counts as many cards from the deck as he did previously in the imaginary deck and sets them aside. He now takes the top card from the remaining cards in his hand and places it face down on the table.
They point to the envelope, it's opened, and the card inside is shown around. It's—for example—the Jack of Spades. All eyes immediately turn to the face-down card. It's turned face-up, and—yes, really!—it's also a Jack of Spades!!!
Please note: You do not force the number of cards cut to the spectator! - A card matching the prediction is placed in the position. - A standard Bicycle deck is used.
After the presentation, you'll be ready to perform again in two minutes. The process is actually as described under "Effect."
