Inspired by my late grandfather, we called him "Grandpere", meaning "Grandfather" in French, who was an explorer, world traveler, surgeon and magician. He was my inspiration for my own fascination with travel and exploration. Often times, I would get lost in his treasure trove of a study, where he kept trinkets and relics from all of his expeditions across remote areas of the world. In the 1940-50s, Surgeons were taught sleight of hand skills to be better with their finger dexterity, something my grandfather learned and employed overseas to bridge cultural and communicative divides.
