You fan out some cards and show them front and back. Everyone can clearly see that you're holding nothing else. You then spread the cards out on the table into a ribbon and lift one end of the ribbon upwards. Finally, when you remove your upper hand, the ribbon is suspended in the air, like the rope in the famous "Indian Rope Trick"!
After this miracle has been thoroughly admired, you cut the "invisible thread" at the top, whereupon the cards immediately fall to the table. You push them together, then fan them out, revealing their fronts and backs again. Of course, your hands are still empty—only the cards are visible, nothing else.
