They present a very special deck of cards, each with a different back. Two cards (e.g., the 2 of spades) are placed face up on the table: the 'Sleuth Cards'.
A spectator freely names any number up to which cards are counted. At this point, a 'sniffing nose' is introduced. Then this process is repeated once more; this time, the spectator could even handle the cards themselves.
"Do you know why these two cards are called 'Sleuth Cards'? Because they can detect cards that have the same back pattern." To do this, slide the two face-up cards out of the deck of cards, along with the card next to them. Then turn over the two face-up 'Sleuths', and you'll see: four identical back patterns.
“Same back patterns – and same faces!” With these words, turn the four cards face up and your audience sees the same face four times (e.g. two of spades).
Now the audience wants to see the picture sides of the other cards, as they suspect that they all have the same picture side as the 'sleuths.' Of course, you're happy to oblige your audience...
…if you flip the deck of cards, you'll see (for example) a bunch of jacks of diamonds!
