A book test by Perkeo with 3 novels inspired by Dr. Jaks, a psychometric block routine and an unusual influence experiment
The original "one-ahead effect": Three different novelettes are presented, reprints of editions from Dr. Jaks's lifetime, three different formats, and three heroes very well known in their time: Rolf Torring, Tom Shark, and Tom and Fred. The themes are reminiscent of Indiana Jones, with the search for a mysterious Tibetan monastery or the mysterious story of a mummy, while Fred and Tom is aimed more at young readers and addresses slavery in the Southern states before the Civil War.
The booklets are briefly flipped through. The different layouts, fonts, and illustrations, which were taken from the originals, are visible. Then they are laid out side by side. (In the following routine, one spectator is included as a participant; in one variation, two participate.)
A spectator is asked to mentally choose one of the notebooks. The performer writes a Roman numeral I on the top sheet of his notebook, shows it while gesturing, writes something down, tears off the sheet, folds it, and places it in a bowl. The spectator is then asked to pick up "his" notebook, check how many pages it has, close it again, and think of any page number. The performer fixes his gaze again, makes another note after a Roman numeral II, and then treats the second sheet of his notebook like the first. The performer announces that he will now attempt to read thoughts before they are even thought. He fixes his gaze again on the spectator, makes another note after a Roman numeral III, tears off the third sheet, folds it, and places it with the first two. Only then does the spectator name the page. The performer takes one of the other two notebooks, opens the named page, and shows the first noun on it. The spectator is then asked to open this page in his notebook and read out the first noun on it. It's a different one, just like the one on the next page. He tips the pieces of paper out of the bowl. A spectator takes them and unfolds them. Behind the "I" is the booklet chosen next, behind the "II" the page number, and behind the "III" the word just read.
The effect is a version of the well-known "one-ahead principle," but without any logical inconsistency. It is made possible by the clever construction of the booklets. Perkeo came up with the idea while working on the Jaks book, inspired by the great mentalist's numerous one-ahead variations and his book test with novelettes.
Additional Mind Reading: The prerequisite for a second mind reading has also been added, which can be shown immediately afterwards or separately.
For the first routine, you simply have to remember the force word and pay attention to which notebook the spectator picks up. The final prompt depends on this. For the second routine, the performer must remember nine words and be able to assign them to the numbers 1 to 9.
The pseudo-psychometric effects: Astonishing pseudo-psychometric effects are possible with commercially available blocks. The underlying principle, the simple preparation, and, in the application examples, a Perkeo routine based on Jan Forster's "Stimm Test" are described.
"Neuro-Pictorial Programming" is a "further development." It's no longer about three predictions, but rather about the obvious influence of a viewer's actions, not through language as in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), but rather either as a result of programming by an object or by a series of three photographs, with the latter solution being almost cabaret-like. The five photographs are also included in this latest version.
