The magnificent volume "Magic City Berlin" concludes the trilogy begun in 2021 about the three major German cities where the art of magic has developed into one of the most successful arts over the past four centuries: Hamburg, Munich, and Berlin. Renowned magician Wittus Witt has, for the first time, researched the development and origins of magic in Germany and, with numerous guest authors, compiled it into three remarkable publications. Never before has magic been treated as an independent and equal art as in this trilogy, which now finds a worthy conclusion with the volume on Berlin.
Wittus Witt has succeeded in closing an important gap in cultural history. In many publications about Berlin's variety shows, magic has never been mentioned as a separate genre.
Almost all the big names in magic have performed in Berlin: Harry Houdini (the king of escape artists), Okito (with the sensational levitating ball), Horace Goldin (the magician who "cut" a person in half with a circular saw) and, of course, Kalanag with his great show "Sim Sala Bim" and David Copperfield with his shows.
Until now, it was completely unknown that famous authors such as Erich Kästner and Kurt Tucholsky also had a close connection to the Berlin magic scene.
Last but not least, the “magician” Hanussen should be mentioned, who claimed to know the fate of the city in advance.
The internationally acclaimed feature film "Truxa" was produced in Berlin, as were many books on magic. Moreover, the Berlin Patent Office houses many secrets of great magicians who have had their illusions protected. "Magic City Berlin" is the most important history book on German magic published in recent times.
