Sherlock's Magnifying Glass - The Mystery of the Missing Map

This is a story about the mysterious detective from London's Baker Street, his meerschaum pipe, his magnifying glass... and a deck of cards.

You light your pipe and begin your report by saying that Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson received a visit from an excited young man, Dr. Watson's nephew Charles , a candidate for admission to the Magic Circle. "I must perform a trick that will truly astonish everyone, or I can forget about membership."

Holmes placed his smoking pipe in the ashtray, opened the violin case, and took out... a deck of cards. One card was selected and written on a slip of paper by Dr. Watson. The slip was then crumpled and burned in the ashtray.

Holmes then took out his magnifying glass and studied the ash on the piece of paper. Slowly and mysteriously, an image appeared in the magnifying glass—that of the chosen card!

“Great!” whispered nephew Charles in surprise. And in a firm voice: “That's it, that's exactly what I need...”
