This trick, which is also known by many other names such as “The Magic Corals” or “The Indian Pearls”, is one of the oldest magic tricks in existence and was first mentioned in Reginald Scot’s “Discovery of Witchcraft” in 1584.
Effect:
Three large wooden beads are threaded onto two strings. One string is knotted over the beads. A spectator is given all four ends of the string to hold.
The magician clasps the stringed beads in his hands and asks the spectator to pull firmly on the strings. When the performer now opens his hands, the beads are freed from the strings, which the spectator still holds tightly in his hands.
