What is a comedy prop anyway?

A comedy prop is an object that was invented, conceived, created, or manufactured with the sole function of making someone laugh.

This book intentionally omits large-scale props such as collapsible stairs, cars that break apart, props that require trapdoors on the stage, or props that are beyond the capabilities of a normal performer in terms of construction or application.

But you'll find practical things like: • a collapsible umbrella • a banana with a zipper • a boxing crate • a banging book • musical playing cards • a bouncing stool • a stubborn bottle • a talking picture • a collapsing chair, plus • a man with a giraffe neck and • a portable rain shower and 139 other surprises...

Many of the gags described are tried and tested, some are new, but all were used in their time by professional entertainers to make their audiences laugh.
