As you tell a wondrous story from faraway Burma, hold the staff outstretched in one hand and ask a spectator to identify one of the bells.

Full concentration! Then, suddenly, the bell selected by the spectator begins to swing slowly, then increasingly loudly, while all the other bells remain (almost) motionless on their cords.

The experiment could be repeated immediately with one of the other bells.

Yes, it's even possible to give the baton to a spectator to hold . The bell of your choice will begin to swing in their hand, too!
