Effect: A massive steel ball penetrates a thick glass plate, which is located between two metal cylinders (see illustration!)
Historical information: Uranium-235 is an isotope that differs from other conventional isotopes. - The uranium isotope 235U is fissionable by thermal neutrons; along with the extremely rare 239Pu, it is the only naturally occurring nuclide capable of a nuclear fission chain reaction (as far as is currently known!). - It was discovered in 1935 by Arthur Jeffrey Dempster.
But enough of the scientific digression. – The "Thayer U-235 Effect" emerged in the period following the discovery of the isotope U-235, as the newspapers were full of headlines about it. And, naturally, many magicians tried to incorporate this event into their effects.
The method of Thayer's Effect is as ingenious as it is simple, yet it continues to amaze audiences time and time again! The included instructions (translated into German!) are by Georg Robinson (Viking/Collector's Workshop) and deviate slightly from the original routine, but also have many parallels. We are confident you will enjoy it and would like to thank Owens Magic Supreme for allowing us to create this unusual effect.
Equipment: Two highly polished aluminum cylinders, one of which is prepared, a steel ball, a ceramic plate, and a glass plate. The props are packed in a transport-safe box with foam padding.
