So that no viewer "armed" with an internet-enabled cell phone can google the book's title and end up on this offer page...! "IKS"—the name under which this book review is advertised and sold—is unknown to the public, and only those who buy it will know the "mundane" title. Anyone else will Google the original title, and that title comes from a very well-known author.
And what is this IKS?
There have already been "Sheerluck," Braco's "Lügentelepath," and "Sine Nomine," but there has never been a combination of these ideas, each brilliant in its own right, nor the now realized version of the blank book, both textually and technically innovative... The basic principles on which "IKS" is based are therefore NOT new! What is new is how they have been combined here, and these are two features that made this combination possible in the first place, or rather, enormously simplify the technical plot. That's up front.
You'll receive two books in a format that's popular as a gift booklet or pocket book. When you perform the complete routine (both parts can also be presented separately), the following happens:
Part 1 “Mental Cabaret”
You hand a pocketbook to a spectator and stand back to back. They can flick through the entire book, or even read it (this is the first difference from most other versions!), and then they are asked to choose a page and say the page number.
What your fellow player in his position doesn't see, but the entire audience does, is that you've now taken a second copy of this book out of your pocket and are leafing through it. As soon as the fellow player has named their page, you look into your book and begin quoting from that page, individual words, whole sentences, or other details. This is repeated with one or two more pages, which the fellow player chooses freely. But then, that's it, this phase is over: The fellow player is completely perplexed, the audience amused. You both slowly turn to the audience and you explain the "miracle" to the fellow player by showing them your second copy: "The other spectators know how I did it...! - But what they don't know is that this book is completely empty...!"
And now it's the entire audience's turn to marvel, as you zip through your book—clearly visible to your fellow player and all other spectators—all blank pages. In this context, here are some other differences compared to other versions:
The second specimen is identical to the other in appearance and thickness, but it still has…
… actually has just as many blank pages as the other printed one.
...it provides all the information necessary to demonstrate the effect as described, without having to memorize anything.
...it is designed in such a way that you don't have to look at the book as you rush through, but can let your gaze wander freely over the audience, and still show it convincingly empty!
This has already transformed mental cabaret into a mental effect. But now it's adding something extra that's also not possible with other versions.
Part 2: “Mind Reading”
The other player still has his book in his hand. Now he should open it again and memorize any noun, whether short or long, from somewhere. This time he should not name the page, but simply memorize the word, close the book, and think intently about the chosen word.
At first, only the first letter registers with you. You say it. If it's correct, you let out a silent cry of joy and lead to a minor sensation. In most cases, however, your fellow player will shake their head. You appear confused. Ask them for the correct first letter. They say it. You still can't believe it. You had such a strong telepathic inspiration... You say the word you received, which actually begins with the letter you said, and ask—still confused—for the word the spectator thought of. And now confusion and amazement spill over, because the word the spectator thought of is a synonym for the term you said (another word for the same thing). "The fellow player was obviously concentrating so intensely on their word that an image formed in their head, which was then sent telepathically...!"
Here again the crucial points:
… The viewer can choose (almost) any page (with a volume of 148 pages, only the first 14 and last 11 are taboo) and
… any noun (except proper names and place names).
… You mention the first letter without any prior information.
...As soon as the spectator says the correct letter, you know their word and your correct synonym. - No, you don't even have to memorize these few words, and you don't need any additional aids either...!
An inexplicable mental effect with a cabaret-worthy prelude, which you can easily skip if you're not the type. Conversely, you can also be content with the first part on appropriate occasions.
The instruction booklet explains everything in detail on 20 pages and even provides presentation snippets: The "IKS" books - The Complete Routine - Preparation - Presentation (Basics) - Special for the book test - The process - The MoaB principle - Word list - Presentation I (MoaB classic) - Memo help - Presentation II (Braco's MoaB) - Acknowledgements (Thanks go to Shawn Farquhar, who came up with the gag solution with the blank book. We corresponded with him beforehand, and he had no objections to our innovative development.)
And we're offering you the whole package (two professionally printed and bound pocket-sized trick books and an instruction booklet) for a sensational price, for which you'll hardly find a single book review.
